A 30-year-old man from Lenasia Extension 2, was recently arrested on a charge of kidnapping and rape.
The arrest was effected after a woman alleged that at approximately 1 pm on July 10, she was walking in Gardenia Street when she met four men, three of whom were known to her. One of the three asked to use her cellphone and she handed it over to him. The three then ran away with her cellphone.
She remained with the fourth man who informed her that he was going to trace the thieves and would return. The woman waited for almost three hours and the unidentified man then returned. He informed her that he could not find the other three men and asked her to go with him. They proceeded to a house where the man kept her in the house against her will.
According to Lenasia SAPS spokesperson Sgt. Bafana Ndimande, the man locked the woman inside the house during the day and would come back in the afternoon. After a few days, the man undressed her and forced himself on her. At approximately 5 pm on August 2, she managed to escape the house and a neighbour escorted her to the local police station.
The police followed up on information which led to the arrest of the suspect. He was detained by the Lenasia SAPS and will appear shortly in the Protea Magistrates Court.
