Following the  horrific robbery and gang rape of eight women in Krugersdorp on Thursday, July 28, about 80 Lesotho nationals were arrested and appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates court, where the matter was postponed to August 10.

The victims were part of a film crew who were ambushed by illegal miners while shooting a music video at a mine dump in West Village.

The ActionSA Johannesburg Caucus of Councillors, welcomed the arrests of the suspects and opposed bail for the suspects.

“We pray for the speedy recovery of the victims and we urge the justice system to leave no stone unturned in dealing with these alleged criminals who have no regard for our judiciary. Had the government took heed to the call made by the ActionSA President, Herman Mashaba in 2016, about addressing the issue of illegal foreigners, things would have been different today and our women and children would be safer,” ActionSA said in a statement.

The statement further reiterated the call in demanding for proper governance and control on all South African borders.

“ActionSA together with like-minded South Africans will continue to fight for the rule of law and the securing of our borders. As ActionSA, we are of the view that the suspects deserves no bail, and should remain in custody for the duration of the trial. We will continue to monitor all developments pertaining to this very case and to other related cases. “
