Thembelihle community members are appealing to the justice department to impose harsh penalties on rapists. It came after the community learnt of an incident where a 59-year-old man allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl.
Lenasia SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Bafana Ndimande confirmed the incident. He said, “An African female alleged that at about 17:45, on June 25, 2021, she arrived home at Thembelihle informal settlement (Lenasia), where her daughter informed her that her peers at school were laughing at her because she was pregnant. The mother asked a neighbour to speak to the daughter. It emerged that at about 19:40, February 17, 2021, an adult male known to the daughter forced himself on her. He further told her that he was going to marry her and make her his second wife. The police followed information that led to the arrest of the suspect. He was detained at the Lenasia SAPS cells and will appear shortly at the Protea Magistrates Court.”
