Police are searching for five heavily armed persons who robbed the BP Sheffield filling station. The perpetrators fled with an undisclosed amount of cash as well as the cellphones belonging to the staff members who were on duty.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “It is alleged that an armed gang of five members, wearing balaclavas, stormed into the filling station in Sheffield Road, Lenasia South Extension 4, just before 01:00 am on February 24. The gang allegedly held the staff at gunpoint and forced them to lie down on the floor before robbing them of their cellphones. The robbers then emptied the cash registers. An undisclosed amount of cash and packets of cigarettes were taken before the robbers fled the scene, using an unknown make of vehicle. No shots were fired. A case of business robbery has been opened for further investigation.”
