On March 15, members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offenses Unit arrested a 42-year-old man. The suspect was taken to the Lenasia South holding cells as heis facing multiple rape charges.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “The arrest came shortly after a case of rape was opened on Saturday, March 14, after the social workers who were providing the three siblings with counseling services, recommended that a case be opened. They had learned with shock that the father had violated them on separate occasions during 2019.The suspect allegedly threatened the to hurt the children if they told anyone. The SAPS views crimes committed against children in a serious light and will be working hard to oppose his bail application. The investigating officer will ask that he be kept in custody until the case is ready for trial. The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance at the Protea Magistrates Court soon.”
