Recently, members of the Vereeniging  Stock theft Unit  recovered  22 head of cattle with an estimated value of R230 000. The cattle had been stolen from a Lawley plot.

Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “The police officers were following up on leads about the stolen cattle, when at, approximately, 09:00 the cattle was spotted on the mountainside in Vlakfontein. The three persons who were seen guarding the herd, fled as soon as they realised that they were about to be arrested. The officers pursued the fleeing suspects and managed to apprehend a 27-year-old. The other two are still at large.

“The herd was positively identified by the lawful owner, as they were marked. The  station commander at Lenasia South SAPS, Colonel Makgomo Maake, praised  the members who were involved in  recovering the livestock. She said that the thieves who were still at large, would be found and brought to book. The 27-year-old is expected to appear in court soon, to face a charge of possession of suspected stolen livestock.”
