Recently, Lenasia SAPS detectives investigating a burglary and a kidnapping recovered two unlicensed firearms, as well as the personal belongings of the kidnapped victim.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “The police officers received a tip-off that a red Toyota Tazz, that had allegedly been used in the commission of the crime, had been seen in Vlakfontein. The police intercepted the vehicle on the Golden Highway adjacent to Vlakfontein. Upon searching the vehicle, an AK47 assault rifle, loaded with eighteen live rounds of ammunition, was discovered, as well as a bank card belonging to the victim of the burglary. The 20-year-old driver led police to a second suspect in Vlakfontein Extension 1. Upon searching this suspect’s room, the police recovered an unlicensed shotgun loaded with four live rounds of ammunition. A plasma TV that the two suspects had allegedly left at a friend’s residence, was also recovered. The two arrested persons have been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and with robbery and kidnapping. They will appear in the Protea Magistrates Court.”
