Members of the community commended law enforcement agencies for their sterling work and for their bravery, after they arrested three suspects, fatally wounding two of them, during an attempted armed robbery. Law enforcement agencies established that the suspects would utilize a grey Nissan X Trail with false registration in the attempted robbery. Team members were placed in strategic positions on the lookout for the vehicle.
At about 2 pm, members identified the grey Nissan X trail travelling from Crown Mines towards Xavier Road, Ormonde.
According to the SAPS statement, “The vehicle was followed and kept under surveillance, and back up was called for. An operational plan was executed. When members attempted to stop the Nissan X trail, the suspects immediately opened fire at the members. Members returned fire and chased after the vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle crashed into Lake Wood Estate Complex by ramming through the boom gate. The suspects exited the vehicle and made a run for it while continually firing at the members.
Police members managed to apprehend three suspects in the nearby veld. Two of the suspects were fatally wounded. AK 47 rifles and handguns were also found in the veld and in the Nissan X trail.”
