On September 19, members of the Lenasia South SAPS, the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, religious organizations and political organizations joined forces to dedicate the day to prayer. They prayed for all the victims who have lost their lives to gender-based violence and other forms of violent crime in Vlakfontein and Zakaria Park during the past few months.
The participants met at 05:00 at the Zakaria Park Community Hall, before proceeding to seven different sites to conduct special prayers for the victims. The day’s proceedings concluded at the Zakaria Park Community Hall where the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Mrs Faith Mazibuko, said that gender-based violence would not be tolerated in our society and that victims of such violence should report such crimes so that the perpetrators can be apprehended.
