On November 29, Lenasia South SAPS arrested a 56 year old man for rape. It is alleged that the suspect raped an 11 year old juvenile.
Lenasia South SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “The arrest of the suspect follows an alleged incident that occurred on Tuesday, November 27, when the mother of an 11 year old girl from Narens Farm in Lenasia South, allowed her daughter to go and play with other children. When the child had not returned home by late that evening, the mother conducted a frantic search but could not find her. The child only returned home the following morning, Wednesday, November 28. When confronted by her mother, she allegedly said that she had spent the night at the 56 year old suspect’s home.”
Sgt Mvula added, “The matter was brought to the attention of the police and a case of rape was opened for investigation. This culminated in the arrest of the 56 year old suspect who was charged with rape.”
The Station commander, Colonel Mirriam Maake, expressed her disappointment at the alleged conduct of the suspect. While the entire country is observing the 16 Days of Activism Against the Abuse of Women and Children, such a crime was allegedly perpetrated by someone who had a duty to protect the vulnerable sections of our society.
The accused will appear in the Lenasia Magistrates Court.
