On November 21, five men were found guilty of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court. They were also declared unfit to possess firearms.
They were sentenced as follows:
Sabelo Lucky Ntshangase, 36, 10 years imprisonment, Lindelani Mlangeni (31), 10 years imprisonment, Bongane Ngubane (41), 15 years imprisonment, Monde Mahlathi (42), 10 years imprisonment and Khayelihle Buthelezi (44) 15 years imprisonment.

“On July 25, 2016. Police receive a tip-off of a planned robbery at one of the shops in Ridgeway. While on the look-out they saw a green Toyota Corolla with five suspicious occupants inside and they pull it out off the road. Police recovered five firearms with the serial numbers filed off and live rounds of ammunition. They found that the vehicle had false number plates”, said Captain Xoli Mbele of Johannesburg Central SAPS.
Cpt Mbele thanked the public for the tip-off which led to the arrest of the suspects.
