A 28-year-old man who accepted goods under false pretence, was arrested and will face charges of theft when he appears in the Lenasia Magistrates’ Court

On November 8, a 31-year-old man from a courier company, delivered 12, 32 inch LCD television sets, complete with solar panels, remote controls and light bulbs to a residence in Mount Kenya Street in Lenasia South. The television sets were meant for a pilot project, and to be handed over to an agent.

When the courier arrived at the residence, he was met by a 28-year-old man who identified himself  as the recipient. The items were then handed over to him. A few days later, the courier company realized that it had made a mistake and had delivered the items to the wrong address.

Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Mvula Khalipha said, “The courier was sent back to collect the goods that were mistakenly delivered.  On his arrival, he found the father of the 28-year-old man at the house, who gladly handed back some of the items, as his son was not at home at the time.  On November 20, the police, together with the courier went back to the house, where the suspect only handed back one set of electronic equipment. He failed to give a reasonable explanation about the missing items and was arrested on the spot.”
