The South African Police Services is investigating a case of contravention of the explosives Act following an incident that took place just before midnight on Sunday, July 22.
“A drop safe was blown up with explosives at the Engen garage at the corner of Tumeric Drive and Clove Drive in Zakarriya Park,” said Sergeant Khalipha Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS.
“It is alleged that an unknown number of armed suspects overpowered the security personnel by disarming them before they blew up the drop safe.”
An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
The suspects fled the scene using two get away vehicles that were waiting in the vicinity. No shots were fired at the scene and no injuries were reported.
“No arrests were made so far and police investigations are continuing,” added Mvula.
