Two people were killed in Vlakfontein on Sunday, July 8, at the hands of “invisible” shooters.
The two men, aged between 20 and 25, were both shot minutes apart in a veld between Vlakfontein proper and Vlakfontein Madala.
According to police reports, three men had been walking through the veld, from a local shebeen, when the incident occurred.
One of the men fell behind. A few minutes later, the two who had been walking in front heard gunshots.

“When the men turned back, they realised that their friend was not there. They ran back and found he had been shot twice,” said Lenasia South SAPS spokesperson, Sergent Khalipha Mvula.
They had no idea that a few metres away from their friend, another man had also been shot. He was discovered later and rushed to hospital, where he later died.
“The shooter was not seen by any of the men. We are investigating a charge of murder but no-one has been arrested at this stage. We, as the police, urge the public not to walk through dark alleys or the veld at night, as criminals are always lurking,” Mvula said.
