Recently, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Fraud and Corruption Unit arrested a licensing examiner in Xavier Street Testing Centre for corruption.
The suspect who is in his 40s, was arrested after members of Internal Affairs received a tip-off that the corrupt examiner took a R5 000 bribe from a learner for a driving licence.
The arresting officers discovered a test result in the driver’s name without the learner driver having undergone the driving test.
Johannesburg Metro Police Spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar said, “The suspect was searched and the R5 000 was found in his pocket. He was detained at Booysens Police Station. The JMPD Chief of Police, Mr David Tembe commended the officers for the arrest. This kind of corruption defeats the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies of reducing road carnages. We will continue working to root out bribery and corruption in the City of Johannesburg.”
