Driver of stolen Audi abandoned in Lenasia

On September 12, a 38-year-old driver and his friend became victims of a crime. The two were ambushed on Thornton Street in Westdene at 5:30 am.

The blue Audi that they were traveling in was hijacked and the driver was forced to the back. His friend was forced to the suspects’ car, a Golf 5.

Both victims were abandoned in an open field in Lenasia, they were also robbed their cell phones and cash.

Johannesburg Central Cluster Crime Combating Unit worked tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to books.

The unit followed the leads and located the car in Newtown Junction Mall.

 

Johannesburg Central spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, said, “Police spotted the vehicle parked at the New Junction Mall’s underground parking on September 12, at 9am. They monitored the vehicle until suspects returned and jumped back into the vehicle at 15.30 pm. The suspects were apprehended. No firearms were recovered from them”.

He added, “A police investigation is underway and suspects are detained in Johannesburg Central police station’s cells for possession of a hijacked vehicle and they will also face another charge at the Sophiatown police station for car hijacking. They will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court”.
