Vusimuzi “Pantoza” Nteleko has been convicted of house breaking and robbery. He was arrested by Lenasia South SAPS in Chilli Street, Zakkariyah, on December 14, 2011.
The Protea Magistrates Court found him guilty of house breaking and robbery. He was sentenced to a total of 25 years imprisonment.
He was given seven years for house breaking and another 15 years for robbery. According to Communication officer, Khalipha Mvula, he stole jewellery, cell-phones and a laptop amongst other things.
Sergeant Mvula is appealing to communities to be aware of men, in the afternoon, who are carrying backpacks pretending to be contract workers.
“These men wear overalls, they go to people’s homes and pretend as if they are contract workers and want to fix something,” said Mvula.
The fake construction workers then break into the victim’s house and steal valuables. Mvula appeals to employers to alert their domestic workers of this scam.
“The employers should make sure they tell their domestic workers not to open for anyone without appointment,” added Mvula.
