Mayfair community members are still trying to come to terms with the murder of a Somalian national who was shot dead on January 5, at the corner of 8th Avenue and Hanover Street in Fordsburg.
It is alleged that the deceased was shot by a fellow Somalian.
The reason for the shooting is unknown. However, a police investigation is underway.
Community members have been complaining about various illegal activities which are taking place on 8th Avenue. It is alleged that there are a lot of illegal firearms in the area, something which is of great concern to law enforcement agencies.
Two months prior to the shooting, two foreign nationals were killed on 8th Avenue. Although the suspects have been arrested, community members say law enforcement agencies must step in to avoid such future incidents.
One of the furious bystanders condemned the shooting and urged foreign nationals to work as a team to resolve their issues.
“8th Avenue has always been a problem and I strongly believe that Somalian community leaders must intervene. I understand that community leaders are working hard to resolve the issues around the area and I am urging community members to listen to their leaders. I do not believe in violence, I believe in dialogue and I think it is the only way to go,” he said.
