Two arrested after using toy gun in robbery

On January 3, Johannesburg Central Police arrested two men between the ages of 23 and 28 for armed robbery and assault with an intention to cause grievous bodily harm. They were arrested at the corner of Diagonal and President Street in the Johannesburg CBD.

Johannesburg Police spokesperson, Xoli Mbele  said, “It is alleged that two suspects robbed a 28-year-old woman at the corner of Sauer and Albertina Sisulu Street. The victim was coming from work when she was confronted by the two suspects. One of them held her up with a firearm while his accomplice searched her. They took her cell phone and R80 before they fled the scene”.

Mbele adds, “Police were patrolling the area when they saw the victim walking on the street. They suspected something was wrong and when they questioned her, she told them she had been robbed. She pointed out the suspects who were still in the vicinity. Police apprehended both suspects and recovered the victim’s cell phone and cash and a toy gun”, he said.

Mbele further stated that investigations are continuing.
