Two dogs were found dead in the middle of a field which connects Lehae and Lenasia Extension 10, on Tuesday, September 13. Site cleaners discovered the bodies.
One dog was hanged with a wire to a tree branch. Below the dangling body of the hanged dog was another lying on the ground.
Disturbed residents on the scene conveyed their disappointment at the act of cruelty.
“This is an act of cruelty. Why do people do this, especially in the community? It is inhuman,” said a disappointed resident, Ally Mohideen.
Fehme Gani, Zenobia Harris and Nisima Sulliman who reside near the veld, echoed Mohideen’s sentiments.
Inspector Manager Madelane Walters, of the SPCA Vereeniging, said animals do not deserve to die in that manner.
“It was good that the matter was reported to the SPCA. However, it is difficult to perform an investigation when the owner is not known. There’s nothing we can do because the dog has died,” said Inspector Walters.
