Two people were arrested after a homeowner set a trap for them at a house in Lenasia Extension 7 recently.

Police stood guard, patrolling the street, waiting for the perpetrators to arrive.

“We were prepared and ready, we kept my wife at the back while my son and I kept guard,” said the home owner. The one suspect arrived at the house at about 9.30am and upon realising that there was an ADT security vehicle patrolling in the area, he fled. He later returned and the domestic worker went to open the gate for him.

“The suspect got into the yard and we closed the gate, locking him in.  We had full control of the situation,” added the home owner.

After realising that he was trapped, the suspect threw his firearm in the flower pot and knife in the toll box. Police arrested the suspect and his accomplice who is believed to be his girlfriend.

The owner of the house added that the suspects appeared at the Lenasia Magistrates’ Court and were denied bail.

Police urge residents to get necessary documentation; including an Identity Document, proof of residence, next of kin and references, before employing a person.
