A baby (believed to be three-months-old), was found abandoned at the a mall in Lenasia, on Saturday, July 30.
“Saaberie Chishty Medics were called upon to assess the baby who was found unharmed. The child was later handed over to SAPS,” said Faheema Sahib of Saaberie Chishty Ambulance.
Research indicates that the main reasons for mothers abandoning their children are denial or financial crisis. However, there is no excuse or reason good enough to justify the act of abandoning babies, considering facilities easily accessible for ladies in such dire situations.
“Are we as a community doing enough to stop such cruelty? What is the leading cause of people abandoning their children? Is it due to uneducated individuals with a lack of sensitivity? Or is this because of unemployment?” she asked.
