It is alleged three suspects were wounded and one arrested following a shootout at the k43 and Nirvana Drive intersection this afternoon (May 6).
The shooting which was between JMPD officers and alleged hijackers took place at around 3.15pm on the day.
According to police, JMPD officers travelling in an unmarked vehicle picked up a signal when they crossed paths with a hijacked Toyota Fortuner. The officers, after picking up the signal, pursued the vehicle.
The vehicle came to a stop when the traffic lights turned red at the intersection and was blocked off by the patrol car.
According to witnesses on scene, the man who had been driving the Fortuner, then exited the vehicle and went into a Hyundai H1 alleged to be a getaway vehicle.
Once in the car, the suspects are alleged to have opened fire on the officers in a bid to get away.
Three suspects were wounded and transported to hospital and one arrested.
The Fortuner was hijacked in Vereeniging.
