*Kenneth Nkosi is alleged to have been robbed of an undisclosed amount of money at an ATM at the Freeway Plaza in Lenasia’s Extension 8 on Tuesday September 1. Nkosi claims to have visited the ATM to withdraw cash to pay off his rent but instead of drawing the money, says he was robbed.
According to Nkosi, he inserted his bank card into the slot and followed the machine’s instructions. After entering his pin, however, he became confused, and he says the machine did not prompt him on the amount he wanted to withdraw. “That” he says, “raised my suspicions and I decided to cancel the transaction. I realised the machine had swallowed my card as it was not ejected,” he said.
Nkosi claims that he received no assistance from the security guards at the plaza and he panicked. After attempting to get his card back from the machine, he decided to rush to the bank to block the card. “The bank gave me a document to fill in and take to the police station to be certified,” he said.
In the meantime, he received a statement from the bank, indicating that money was withdrawn from his account after the card had been swallowed by the machine. “People must check The ATM’s all the time because criminals are everywhere,” he said.
