In Lenasia, innocent people continue to lose their lives at the hands of criminals; breadwinners and honourable people are being killed with impunity daily while criminals continue roaming the streets. The recent incident, which claimed the life of an Indian male, has sent a shockwave in Lenasia and the surrounding areas, with many calling for more decisive action by the police than rhetoric statements. The male lost his life after an alleged carjacking. Lenasia SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Bafana Ndimande, elaborated, “We received a complaint of a shooting at the corner of the K43 Road and Nirvana Drive, in Lenasia Extension 9. Upon arrival, the officers were directed to Nirvana Drive, in Lenasia Extension 5, where they found a maroon Renault Kadjar motor vehicle that had lost control and rolled over. An Indian male lying next to the motor vehicle sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. Paramedics certified the victim dead. The female passenger was taken to hospital for treatment. It was further alleged that occupants in a red Volkswagen Polo with an unknown registration number shot the victim who managed to drive to Nirvana Drive, Lenasia Extension 5, where he lost control of his motor vehicle.”
Sgt Ndimande added, “We are investigating a case of murder and attempted carjacking. We appeal to the community to assist us with any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact the SAPS National Crime Stop line at 08600 10111 or Lenasia Police Station on 011 213-6045/6 or 011 213-6057 or anonymously on MySaps App.”
