Religious institutions by their virtue, are regarded as sacred places. However, criminals think otherwise and are now targeting mosques in Lenasia. Seven perpetrators held up a security guard and ransacked the mosque in Lenasia. Speaking to the Rising Sun, Lenasia SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Bafana Ndimande, said, “An African male alleged that he was officially on duty when he was approached by seven unknown African males, one armed with a firearm. They tied his hands and locked him in a guard room. They proceeded into the mosque and forced the door open. They took items to an undisclosed amount of money and a white Volkswagen minibus, which was recovered at Anchorville (Lenasia).”
Sgt Ndimande added, “We are investigating a case of business robbery and appeal to the community to assist us with the information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Those with information can call the SAPS National Crime Stop line at 08600 10111 or Lenasia Police Station at 011 213-6045/6 or 011 213-6057 or report anonymously into MySaps App.”
