A mother is mourning the death of her two children, aged 1 and 3, who passed away at their home in Phumla Mqashi (Lenasia South) on Tuesday, March 8. Both children complained about stomach cramps before they died. Lenasia South SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “According to the 37-year-old mother, the one-year-child started complaining about experiencing stomach cramps, while trying to assist the child, her 3-year-old daughter also started complaining of the same issue.”
Sgt Mvula added, “The mother took the one-year-old girl outside the house to get some fresh air, but the child suddenly stopped breathing whilst in her arms. She went back into the house only to find the three-year-old girl lying on the floor unresponsive. She noticed that both children had foam coming out of their mouths. She immediately called the neighbours for assistance. The two little girls were declared deceased later on at the scene by paramedics.” Sgt
Mvula said it remains unclear whether the two girls had ingested something that could have led to their demise. “An autopsy will be conducted on the deceased minors to establish the cause of their deaths. Two counts of inquest cases have been opened for further police investigations. Police are appealing to members of the public to avoid by all means possible placing edible and harmful things in places that can be easily accessed by minor children, as such reckless behavior can result in unintended loss of innocent lives, “said Sgt Mvula.
