The woman was accompanied by a man that she introduced as her boyfriend. They were let inside the property to view the car. The couple then expressed their desire to test drive the car, and the unsuspecting victim handed the car keys to the couple. The alleged boyfriend drove the car, while the victim sat in the front passenger seat, with the woman in the back seat.”
Sgt Mvula added, “While driving along Starling Street, approaching Wellington Road, the alleged boyfriend pulled out a firearm and ordered the owner to alight from the car. The couple robbed him of his cellphone before they sped off with his black BMW 3 series with registration number SXB851GP.”
Members of the public are to be extra careful when placing adverts on internet platforms as it has the potential to leave them vulnerable to criminals who pose as prospective clients. It is not a good idea to be alone when you allow prospective buyers to test drive your vehicle; make proper arrangements with close friends or relatives to accompany you as a seller or to have someone following you in another car when the vehicle is taken on a test drive.
