Ennerdale SAPS is pleading with community members to assist them in tracking down two men who allegedly defrauded a community member who hails from Lawley Extension 1.The victim said he needed to build a carport and contacted Zenzalo Building Construction (PTY) LTD, after seeing the company’s flyer in his gate.
Two men from Zenzalo Building Construction came to see him at his house, and a deal was struck to have the carport erected. The men asked for a deposit upfront, stating that they were low on cash owing to the lockdown.
The victim gave them R20 000 in cash, which they said they will use to buy materials. The following day, on May 15, the men returned to deliver some of the materials and presented a receipt for
R17 000, which they claimed to have used. They told him that they will deliver the balance of the material once they receive it. On May 16, they phoned the victim and told him they are still waiting for the hardware store to deliver the goods. That was the last time he heard from them.
When the victim tried to phone one of the suspects, his phone went straight to voicemail.
After two weeks, the victim suspected that something was amiss and searched for the company’s profile online, but the company didn’t exist. He later found out that the receipt from the hardware store was fraudulent, and that the number plate of the BMW that they were using, belonged to someone who resided in Alexandra. Anyone with information that can assist in the case can contact the Ennerdale SAPS on 011 855 1055 or 10111.
