On Tuesday July 7, two brothers were shot and killed and three others are fighting for their lives in hospital, being shot outside a house in Vlakfontein Proper.
When police arrived at the scene they found a 30-year-old male lying in a pool of blood. The deceased had multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and to the head.
Lenasia South SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula said, “The other victims had already been rushed to hospital using a private vehicle as they too had sustained gunshot wounds. One of the victims, aged 27, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. The others were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a critical condition.
Sgt Mvula added, “An eyewitness alleged that two unknown armed males started shooting indiscriminately at the victims and fled the scene. The motive behind the killings has not yet been established at this stage. A double murder case, as well as three counts of attempted murders are being investigated. Police have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of heavily armed suspects.
The mourning families of the victims, who are flabbergasted by the incident, said they are left with more questions than answers.
