On April 15, two female suspects, aged 22 and 37 years old, and a 47-year-old male suspect were successfully traced and placed under arrest. The suspects are facing a murder charge following the discovery of the body of a 23-year-old male in an open space in Vlakfontein Extension 3.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “At 1:50 am , on Wednesday May 15, a group of about 13 males and two females arrived at the deceased’s place of residence. They alleged that the deceased had stolen a television set and they were intent on visiting all the places that the deceased might indicate as being used to hide the stolen item.
The group allegedly entered the deceased’s home and forcefully conducted a search, but could not find any of the alleged stolen items. The deceased was then allegedly bound with a chain before they left the premises. On the same morning at around 7:30 am the deceased’s body was found in an open space.”

Sergeant Mvula stated that preliminary investigations by police had led to the arrest of the three suspects. The search for the remaining suspects is underway and more arrests are expected soon.The police condemn such acts by members of the community, who take the law into their own hands whenever individuals are suspected of having committed criminal acts. The police urge members of the public to act with restraint and to contact the nearest police station on 010)230 1000 whenever they have information about criminal activities.
