On Sunday, February 16, unknown number of perpetrators shot and fatally wounded a 45-year-old male who is believed to have been a taxi owner in VlakfonteinLenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula, said, “The deceased was believed to be a member of Ennerdale Taxi Association. He was shot at approximately 9:30 pm on February 16 while travelling along Leopard Street near the recreational park in Vlakfontein Proper .
The deceased’s body was found lying inside his bullet-riddled white Toyota Avanza.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.The motive behind his killing has not yet been established, but the possibility that the incident might have been fuelled by the ongoing tensions between two rival taxi associations, cannot be ruled out. A case of murder has been opened for further investigation and police are urging members of the public who might be able to assist with information regarding the whereabouts of the perpetrators, to contact the Lenasia South SAPS on 010 230 1000, or Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.”
