Alleged fraudster, Faasigh Adams was arrested on Friday evening, January 31, in relation to fraudulent contracts estimated at R50 000 which he took out at Cell C. Rising Sun featured an article in its January 14-20, 2020, publication where it was reported that Mr. Adams defrauded a number of pilgrims for Umrah.
Faasigh Adams has since contacted the Rising Sun to apologise to his clients for his previous behaviour and promised to make amends.
On January 30, Faasigh wrote: “Let me from the offset humbly make maaf(forgiveness) to the ummah(community) and Mu’tamireen(pilgrims), in particular for misappropriation of monies which was deposited into the Madrassah Tul Ulooms account, and I make Shukr thanks) to the Almighty for having shown mercy upon me, a humble servant, by affording me the opportunity to make amends in repaying more than half of my debt in such a short period of time through the grace and Fadl (generosity) of the Almighty.
I pray that the ummah (community) will forgive my shortcomings and pray that the Almighty eases my difficulty in order to fulfil the Gaq (rights) of those whom I am indebted to.” He added, “I have never denied my debt and will never deny what is rightfully theirs and have taken the amaanat (guidance) through the guidance of an Alim (learned individual).”
The next day, on January 31, Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed the arrest of Faasigh Adams. The Wynberg Magistrates Court in Cape Town has granted the 56-year-old bail on February 3. While Faasigh has made arrangements to pay some monies back. He still owes a substantial amount of money that cannot be independently verified.
