Members from the SAPS provincial organised crime investigation(taxi violence unit),Johannesburg K-9 unit,Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s undercover reaction unit were following up on information regarding the whereabouts of wanted suspects linked to a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder that was committed in the Olivenhoutbosch area recently.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula said, “The team arrived at one of the suspect’s place of residence in Vlakfontein Proper and found a 36 year old suspect in possession of police uniform as well as constable epaulets (ranks).The suspect led the team to another house in the same vicinity, where a 24 year old suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition .The team continued with the operation and the third suspect aged 22 years old was also placed under arrest after police recovered an unlicensed firearm loaded with live ammunition .The serial numbers on the recovered firearms were filed off.The team is currently working hard to link the arrested suspects with other serious and violent crimes committed within and beyond the borders of our province.The three suspects have been charged with unlawful possession of police uniform, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition respectively.The suspects are scheduled to appear in court as soon as police preliminary investigations are concluded.”
