The South African Police Services has launched a manhunt for an unknown armed suspect who shot and fatally wounded a 37 year old male victim at the Sheffield BP service station, Lenasia South on Sunday, June 30 at around 8pm.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula said, “The deceased was in the company of his friend as well as his two children when the unknown suspect arrived. The suspect had a verbal altercation with the deceased’s friend. The unknown suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and corked it before ordering the man he had an argument with to step out of the car”.
“It is further alleged that the deceased tried to intervene by separating the two parties when a single gunshot went off and the victim collapsed as he had sustained a gunshot wound on his upper body. The 37 year old victim succumbed to his injuries and was certified as dead on the scene. The suspect allegedly fired another gunshot before fleeing from the scene.”
A murder case is currently under investigation and no arrest has been made at this stage. Police are currently viewing the available CCTV footage to identify the suspect.
