ON Wednesday, January 2, a community member discovered the lifeless body of a 42 year old male at Phumla Mqashi Informal Settleement in Univile plots.
The South African Police Service is investigating a case of murder.
Lenasia South SAPS spokesperson, Segeant Khalipha Mvula, confirmed the incident, “A member of the community alerted the police to a lifeless body that was found lying in the middle of the street at Phumla Mqashi informal settlement. The deceased was allegedly beaten with blunt objects by members of the community who accused him of having broken into one of the houses and stole electrical appliances and food items. The deceased is known in the area and police are busy tracing his next of kin.”
Sgt Khalipha added, “No arrests have been made at this stage. As police, we condemn the actions by some members of our communities who resort to taking the law into their own hands instead of engaging the police whenever someone is alleged to be involved in any acts of criminality. We will ensure that those involved are brought to book so that they may face the full might of the law”.
