On November 25, at around 9 pm, Johannesburg Central Police arrested three suspects between the ages of 22 and 37, at the corner of Jeppe and Harrison streets, for armed robbery .
It is alleged the trio robbed a 29-year-old man inside a Quantum.
According to Johannesburg Central SAPS spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, the victim boarded the taxi at the corner of Jeppe and Rissik, on his way to Mayfair. Inside the taxi was the driver and two men. The victim sat in the front seat next to the driver. When he paid his taxi fare, one of the men in the back seat pointed a firearm at him, and robbed him of R3 000. The driver never said anything during that time.
“The taxi was forced to come to a halt after a robot turned red. The victim spotted police officers on patrol and jumped out of the taxi and alerted them to his plight. The vehicle was pulled out of the road and the men were searched. A firearm and the victim’s money was recovered. The suspect used his licensed firearm to commit the robbery,” Capt Mbele said.
