Fed up with the high incidences of house robberies and other sorts of criminal activities, Zakaria Park community members took the law into their own, when they confronted three men and accused them of plotting to commit a crime and terrorising people in the area.
Community members then set upon the trio meting out swift mob justice. One suspect was killed in the fracas.
Lenasia South spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula said, “ We are investigating a cases of murder, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle as well as possession of house-breaking implements following an incident that occurred at around 4 pm on Wednesday, November 14, at the corner of Pennyroyal Street and Clove Drive.”

He added, “Police were alerted to a mob justice incident where three adult males were allegedly confronted by members of the community on suspicion that the trio were about to commit an offence in their neighbourhood. Investigations conducted by police at the scene revealed that the white VW Polo sedan that was allegedly used by the trio was fitted with false registration plates and false licence disc. House breaking implements were found in the vehicle.”
The two suspects aged 29 and 35, were immediately placed under arrest on charges of possession of house breaking implements and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
Lenasia South SAPS acting station commander Lieutenant Quinton Malan condemned the actions of the members of the community who decided to take the law into their own hands. He pleads with the public to desist from such actions as those who contravene the law will be taken to task. No arrests have been made in connection with the murder. Investigations are continuing.
