On October 15, the Johannesburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) branded Vehicle was stoned in Thembelihle during a protest. The animals that were in transit for medical care were badly traumatised. The Inspector was also affected by the incident.
Chantal Soobramoney, Junior Bookkeeper, JSPCA Johannesburg said, “According to the inspector the rioters were hanging onto the vehicle, the mesh door is old, however the force and weight broke it. The JSPCA vehicle was always damaged by the public, that is why we are reaching out to the responsible public to help us and give donations to fix our vehicle”.

Soobramoney added, “The JSPCA is out there, rendering service to the public, however, it is very disappointing that the Inspectors and animals in transit would be put in danger and through such. The JSPCA vehicles have been an ambulance service transporting already injured, stray and traumatised animals to the JSPCA”.
Soobramoney said, “It is understandable that there was a riot going on however there is a manner in which people should act when raising their concerns. This should be managed for the safety of the public. It is very disappointing that the rioters have the courage to take it upon themselves to act in such a manner”.
The JSPCA and its inspectors extend a worthy service to the public and animals, and we really do need the public to get more involved and be aware and protect our inspectors out there and our animals, as well as to report any acts of cruelty to animals and dog fighting in the areas.
