Two men were arrested after they were found to have stolen grinders from a workshop in Lenasia Extension 13s Heliodor Crescent. The two were arrested after the neighbour, Farouk Fattar found one of the men hiding in the ceiling.
According to Fattar, the tools were stolen in the early hours of Friday, July 20.
“ At around 3am my dogs started barking. When I checked, I could see a man walking in the yard next door but I no attention to him,” Fattar said.
After attending prayer at a nearby mosque, Fattar says he noticed the door to his workshop was slightly opened, and discovered his power tools were missing.
He, together with another resident searched the neighbour’s house but found no one there. As they were leaving they heard sounds emanating from the roof.
“I opened the trap door and went into the roof, that’s where I found one of the suspects,” Fattar said,.
After interrogating the suspect, the stolen power tools were found hidden behind the kitchen sink. The suspect also pointed out his ‘co worker’.
According to Fattar, the house at which the suspect was found was a problematic one. He said, he has had to draw up a petition to submit to relevant authorities.
“There is no parental control in the house as the father is away at work. There is always something happening in that house. There are parties every weekend, public drinking and drug consumption. The fact that we could find my stolen tools in the house goes to show what is going on there,” Fattar said.
