Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murders following an incident that took place in Soweto at around 6pm on Saturday, April 7.
“It is alleged that a 46-year-old taxi owner, who is affiliated with the DOJOLTA Taxi Association, arrived home and found his four drivers waiting for him at the entrance. Three unknown armed men suddenly accosted them and opened fire randomly,” said Sergeant Khalipha Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS.
According to Sergeant Mvula, the taxi owner was shot and fatally wounded while two of his taxi drivers, aged 27 and 32, sustained gunshot wounds to the back, legs and on the cheek.
The victims were rushed to hospital.
“The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage, but the possibility that this incident could be related to the ongoing taxi violence cannot be ruled out.”
The South African Police Services is pleading to the public to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
The public is warned not to try and confront the perpetrators as they are armed and dangerous.
Police urge members of the public to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or to send a detailed SMS to the Crime Line on 32211.
