Lenasia South police are investigating a case of truck hijacking and kidnapping, following the hijacking of a bread delivery truck in Vlakfontein Extension 1 on January 11, at about 9.30am.
“According to information that is available to the police, the 28-year-old truck driver and his assistants were in the back of the truck sorting out bread that they were about to deliver to Bafana Bafana Supermarket in the area, when five unknown suspects accosted them and took the truck keys before locking them in the back of the truck,” said Sergeant Khalipha Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS.

One of the perpetrators was armed with a handgun.

“It is further alleged that the suspects drove off in the direction of Univille plots and halted the truck near Phumla Mqashi informal settlement.”

The perpetrators forcefully opened a drop safe that was attached to the inside of the truck before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“The victims were later freed from the back of the truck by their employer before the police were called to the scene,” said Sergeant Mvula.
“Lenasia South SAPS appeal to any witnesses to come forward with information and assures them that any information will be treated in strict confidence.”
