While community members are still trying to come up with permanent solution to the shooting problems in Westbury, innocent lives are being lost on a regular basis.
On October 16, a teenage girl was shot at the corner of Kretzmar and Florida streets.
Community members are furious over the latest incident and are pleading with government to deploy the army to the crime-riddled area.
Shahiem Ismail, a community leader, said the government is not doing enough to protect its citizens.
“We had numerous meetings with the office of Minister Fikile Mbalula and it had been announced that the army would be deployed in Westbury. We are still waiting. In the meantime, our community is at risk 24 hours a day. Are we not part of this South Africa? I’m tired and fed up with this government for not tending to our people’s needs,” said Ismail.
The latest shooting victim was rushed to Helen Joseph Hospital for medical attention.
