Robertsham community members reacted with shock after JMPD Dog Unit and Crime Intelligence discovered military mortar bombs.

The bombs were discovered on September 7, at Xavier Street.

JMPD Dog Unit acted upon a tip off and managed to arrest two suspects, aged 62 and 41.

JMPD spokesperson, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, said the bombs are used in the army.

“These are the kinds of bomb used in the army. They have been charged for the contravention of the Explosives Act,” Superintendent Minnaar said.

Booysens SAPS spokesperson, Captain Lorraine Van Emmerik, said the suspects will appear on September 8, pending investigation.

Some community members went on social media to vent their frustration.

Sam Jeff wrote, “I believed that, there’s a lot of Military weapons crossing out from the Military Base, government must do what is right (sic)”.
