On August 22, Johannesburg Central Police arrested a 21-year-old suspect, who is a Zimbabwean National, for rape. The suspect was arrested at Mintor Court on the corner of Plein and Claim Street at 7pm.
Johannesburg Central SAPS spokesperson, Xoli Mbele stated, “It is alleged that the suspect raped an 11- year-old girl on the day. The mother of the victim came from work at 6pm when she found her child sleeping. She asked what was wrong and the victim’s aunt told the mother that the victim is starting to have her periods.
“The child was scared to speak initially but eventually related her ordeal to her mother”.
He continued, “The child told her mother that a neighbour raped her. Police were contacted and swift response by the police led to the arrest of the suspect”.
Investigations are under way and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
