A 37-year-old suspected car thief was stoned to death by angry residents in Vlakfontein Extension 1.
It is alleged that on Sunday, March 12, at about 7.30am, residents were woken up by the screams of a woman asking for help as her white Hyundai i35 was being stolen by the suspect, who allegedly once had romantic ties with her.

The suspect allegedly tried to flee from the scene in the stolen vehicle, but lost control while negotiating a bend and the vehicle crashed into a boundary wall.
“The angry residents caught up with the suspect and began assaulting him with an assortment of objects including bricks. Police and emergency services were called to the scene,” said Sergeant Khalipa Mvula of the Lenasia South SAPS.
“The man was fatally wounded and was declared dead on the scene.”

The station commander, Colonel Ntombela, expressed his condemnation of residents who take the law into their own hands.
Ntombela has vowed that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.
“A murder case is being investigated and we are appealing to witnesses to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects who carried out this brutal killing,” added Mvula.
