Claims on social media that ATM scammers were arrested at an ATM at a garage in Lenasia Extension 1 on Saturday, October 29, has been rubbished by Captain Hector Netshivhodza from the Lenasia Police Station.
The report reads, “The suspects are currently in custody at the Lenasia Police Station. We are calling on any person who was a victim of an ATM crime in Lenasia or surrounding areas in the past few months to contact us. Your assistance is required to positively identify the perpetrators. Please contact Capt Hector Netshivodza or the duty officer at the Lenasia Police Station with regard to this matter. Please rebroadcast this message – Thanks.”
According to Captain Netshivhodza, there was no incident reported on the day. “I have received calls concerning the case and people were congratulating me. However, I do not know about the arrests nor where the information is coming from,” said Netshivhodza. Engen Garage has been contacted for comment.
