A 33-year-old man was arrested for raping a woman inside the Lenasia police cells on the night of Wednesday, August 24. The woman (24) was arrested for corruption and had spent the night in police custody when she was raped.
The suspect is identified as being a police reservist at the station and was arrested on Thursday, August 25, after the victim reported him to his colleagues.
“The reservist appeared at the Lenasia Magistrates’ Court on Friday and the case was postponed for further investigation,” said Captain Hector Netshivhodza of the Lenasia SAPS.
The case is investigated by the Independent Police Investigation Directorate.
