Minister of Police, Nathi Nhleko, released crime statistics classifying Gauteng as the province with the highest murder rate increase in the country. Gauteng had a 10.4% increase in reported murder cases.
Looking at Lenasia and Lenasia South, Lenasia has increased from 25 murder cases in 2014 to 44 in 2015. Lenasia South increased from 12 to 22 murder cases.
These statistics came after a dead woman was found in Lawley on Sunday, September 27. According to Captain Netshivhodza of the Lenasia SAPS, the woman sustained serious injuries. Her left eye and right ear were seriously damaged. She has a mark on her neck which suggests she was strangled.
Gauteng had the most cases of attempted murder with a total of 4202 (8.7% increase).
The province also took the top spot in the number of sexual offences, house, bank and other property robberies, vehicle thefts and various hijackings.
