A man in his twenties was beaten to death by the community at the Thembelihle informal settlement, on Sunday, July 24 after he and an accomplice robbed a man of his cell phone and money.
At about 3am, the victim was held up by the two armed men; one carrying a firearm and the other a knife.
“The man yelled for help and the Thembelihle community responded. The suspects tried to flee. However one of them was caught and beaten to death. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics,” said Captain Hector Netshivhodza of the Lenasia SAPS.
Four people, aged between 30 and 40, were arrested and charged with murder.
Police urged the community not to take the law into their own hands stating it is a criminal offence to do so.
